Focus: Math - Percent of and Discount

  1. Take up your questions from yesterday.
    Answers:
    4a) ¾ = 75% using scale factor or 25
        4b) 100%
        4c) â…— = 60% using scale factor 20
        5a) 50% (half shaded)
        5b) ¼ = 25%
        5c) â…— = 60% scale factor 20
        6a) > because 5/10 would be 50% and 7 is greater
        6b) < because ¾ is 75%
        6c) < because scale factor 4 so 44 < 50
        10) Ravi since 18/20 use scale factor 5 = 90/100 vs. 85/100 Karli

2. Watch the video from Khan Academy click here.

3. Understand that we can always use the benchmark of 10% and our powers of 10. For example, if you want to find 30% of 45, we know that 10% would be the same as x 0.1 which means we move the decimal one place to the left...so 10% of 45 would be 4.5. Now we can triple this number to get 30%. So 4.5 + 4.5 + 4.5 = 13.5

4. Complete questions page 318 #4, 6, 8, 10

5. Take a picture of your math flag task (both the flag and all your work) and email it to me.
