Bring I.T. norms
-
PEDs may be used in the classroom only with permission of a teacher or other staff member.
-
As a result of bandwidth limitations, downloading or streaming of video content for non-educational purposes is not permitted.
-
PEDs may only be used to make and/or receive phone calls or texts in the office unless a teacher or staff member provides permission to do so elsewhere.
-
Students need to be diligent about safely storing their PEDs. Hillcrest Middle School is not responsible for lost, stolen and/or damaged PEDs.
-
Keep personal information private (e.g. age, address, phone numbers, usernames, passwords) unless approved by a teacher and/or a parent.
-
Use good judgment in accessing material on the Internet, and report suspicious concerns to a teacher immediately.
-
Create, display, use and store messages, images and videos appropriately while demonstrating respect, e.g. no cyber-bullying or using others’ passwords.
-
PEDs may not be used for any communication or for taking photographs/video unless permission is granted by a teacher or other staff member.
-
Posting photographs and/or images on the Internet (including social network sites) without teacher and/or parent permission violates the Code of Conduct.
-
With respect to Board technology, never download or install any software without the permission of your teacher.
-
Do not use Board technology resources to store materials not relevant to educational purposes.
-
Users should not expect privacy with respect to any of their activities when using the Board’s technology resources.
Inappropriate use of technology and PEDs may result in discipline or having the use of these devices suspended or removed. Students not using a device in class appropriately will be asked to put it away. If the student continues to use the device it will be placed on the teacher’s desk to be picked up at the end of the period. WELCOME TO Hillcrest

Dear Parents/Guardians
I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome both you and your child to Hillcrest! My name is Carol Rothfusz and I will be teaching your son/daughter Language/Mathematics/Drama/Dance this year. It is my wish that your child has a successful year and that he/she reaches his/her personal academic goals. In order for these goals to be accomplished, it requires support from home and a strong effort put forth by your child. Please find below a summary of expectations and requirements for this school year.

AGENDA
It is recommended that your child uses the school agenda. It is expected that this agenda will accompany your child from class to class in order to record and organize daily homework and assignments. This agenda is to be checked by the parent/guardian on a daily basis. This agenda will act as one of the main communication tools between you and your child’s teachers. Please read and review the agenda for important school and board policies.

HOMEWORK
Homework is to be completed by the due date assigned by the teacher. Failure to complete homework by the assigned dates will unfortunately cause your son/daughter to fall behind in his/her studies. It is vital that your child completes his/her homework on time and with care to ensure that he/she understands concepts learned in class. A Mathematics text book will be provided to your child to use for homework practice. If homework is not regularly completed, an email will be sent home to alert you that the work is incomplete.

ATTENDANCE
It is very important for students to arrive on time to school as well as to class. Students are to be in their assigned locations on time. Please review the school policies regarding late arrivals with your child. Those students who arrive to class late will miss important information as well as disrupt the learning of their peers. It is the responsibility of the student to seek assistance from their teachers, peers, or the class site in order to catch up on any missed work. Should your son/daughter be absent for any reason, please note that he/she will be responsible for the assignments missed and must have these assignments submitted within a specified time arranged with the teacher.
Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs):
PDSB has a Bring-Your-Own-Device to school policy. While on school property, PEDs are to be used for educational purposes and with teacher permission only. Currently, our school is fortunate to have a fully functioning computer lab, chrome books and Ipads for student use while at school. So if students intend to travel to/from school with their PED, they should plan to turn it off and store it safely in their locker throughout the school day (including the lunch hour), unless a teacher gives a student permission otherwise. The school is not responsible for lost/stolen PEDs. There is more information in the student handbook, and shared at the school welcome assembly.

Recommended Supplies:
Below is a list of supplies that you may consider purchasing for your son/daughter.
