We are currently working on: Number Sense - Fractions chapter 8

Fraction Flag Instructions:

Fraction Flag

You are going to design your own personal flag!

What you need:
- large grid paper
- Coloured Pencils
- Tape
- Ruler
- Dowel, straw or wooden skewer (for flagpole) **not required

Task: Design a flag and describe each part/section of your flag as a fraction

 Your plan should include:

- make a rough copy first; then transfer to the large grid-sized paper
- create a flag that is 10x10 or larger
- use geometric shapes (squares, rectangles, other quadrilaterals)
- ensure fractional amounts are in the correct format

-SHOW ALL ORIGINAL FRACTIONS AND HOW YOU SIMPLIFIED THEM - SHOW ALL WORK INCLUDING SCALE FACTORS USED!!
- Multiple colours – be creative!

Discussion Questions (answer on the back of your flag)

1. What was your strategy for making the flag?
2. How did you determine the fractional amounts for your flag?
3. What concepts did you use to complete this project?

All classes: All student work that  has been marked should be signed by a parent and then brought back to school to be placed into your portfolio.
