Welcome to Distance Learning! I know these are unprecedented times but we will work through this together. I will be posting your work here and will be using Google Classroom as well. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
Monday
Focus: Math - Area

1. Check your answers from Friday: questions page 348 #1, 2, 4, 7, 9
1a. km/km2 1b. cm/cm2 1c. m/m2
2a. P= 122 m A= 930 m2
2b. P= 116 cm A= 616 cm2
2c. P=128 mm A=1008 mm2
4. Rectangle A is 8 x 5 (40); Rectangle B = 20 / 8 = 2.5 cm width
7. P = 4s so 20cm/4 = 5cm side lengths. Therefore, the area = l x w or 5 x 5 = 25 cm2
9. A = l x w so what times itself gives 16? 4 x 4 m
2. Math - Watch video for Area of a Triangle

3. Complete questions page 357 #1, 2, 3, 6
Focus: Language: Reading and Oral

1. Language: Reading response: Hubble Telescope - read article and answers questions - post to google assignment
2. Oral Assignment - keep practicing your story book - The recording of you reading it will be due on Friday
3. Take a look at the Emoji Slideshow

Tuesday

Google Meet
Groups 1 and 3 1:00 pm
Groups 2 and 4 1:30 pm
Focus: Math - Area of a Parallelogram
1. Take up questions from yesterday page 357 #1, 2, 3, 6. Use A=bh/2 for finding answers:
1a. 14 square units 1b. 15 square units 1c. 14 square units
2. 2 x 3.5 / 2 = 3.5 square meters
3a. A=bh/2 so to find b = A*2/h so = 6m
3b. 2 m 3c. 3 m
6. H = 12 m. Since the number has to double so that the areas will be the same i.e. 12 x 8 / 2 = 48 square units and for the rectangle, 6 x 8 = 48 square units.

2. Watch video on Area of a Parallelogram

3. Complete questions page 354 #2, 3, 4, 5, 7
Focus: Language - Reading and Writing
1. Independent Reading 30 minutes

2. Free Writing - this month, I’d like to focus on short stories for our free writing. Your short story could be 1 - 3 pages and include dialogue between characters. You may also choose to do a comic strip story with dialogue. Begin the brainstorming process today where you think about what your story could be about.
3. Listen to this story for inspiration (also take note for your oral assignment; enthusiasm, voice, etc.)
Wednesday
Focus: Math - Area
1. Take up questions from yesterday:
Page 354
2a. A = bh so 13 x 3 = 39 square units
2b.A = bh so 6 x 7 = 42 square units
2c. A = bh so 6 x 4 = 24 square units
3a. A = bh so 13 x 24 = 312 square cm
3b. A = bh so 15 x 13 = 195 square mm
3c. A = bh so 24 x 16 = 384 square km
4a. A = bh so h = A/b so 60/12 = 5 m
4b. A = bh so b = A/h so 6/2 = 3 mm
4c. A = bh so b = A/h so 30/5 = 6 cm
5a. A = lw so 10 x 5 = 50 cm2
5b. A = bh so 7 x 8 = 56 cm2
5c. A = lw so 7 x 7 = 49 cm2
7. The student used the side measurement as the height instead of the perpendicular line that goes from the base to the top of the shape.
2. Watch Powerpoint: Area of Parallelograms and Triangles
3. In order to solve the area for compound shapes, just divide the shape into parts that you can calculate and then add all of the area parts together.

4. Complete worksheet “Area of Compound Shapes”

5. BrainPOP - Area of Polygons Assignment
Focus: Language - Media/Oral
1. Complete demographics assignment - see post in google classroom

2. Practice your storybook - your recording is due Friday and you should read for 1-5 minutes. You may read a section of your book if it is too long. There must be characters with dialogue.
